THE SHIKHAZURI WOMAN
SHIKHAZURI creates culturally inspired jewellery for globally minded women.
The Indo-Swahili brand name is the amalgam of my forename, Shikha, which means tip of the flame in Hindi and to hold in Swahili, and “zuri” means beautiful. It captures the cross-cultural fusion that is ingrained in my background and work: I am of Indian descent, was born and raised in Kenya, and have lived and worked in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
My design aesthetic celebrates the paradigm of the new world woman whose style is inspired by multiple influences across the globe. She is not defined by a single geographical place or culture. Rather, she is a global citizen that embraces diversity all around her. This is central to her daily experiences and defines who she is.
If you can relate, you’re in the right place! I honour your individuality by creating exotic jewellery that fuses cultures and style.

HOW DID I GET HERE?
It’s probably apparent that I’m passionate about travel, immersing myself in different cultures, and of course, exotic adornment.
But the SHIKHAZURI story doesn’t start there.
I’m a lawyer by profession but a creative at heart that loves to try new things. In fact, my journey into the craft began in 2007 when I started making African beaded jewellery to raise funds to support an animal orphanage while working on a conservation project in Kenya.
Every time I ventured to markets across the country to source raw materials for my creations, I was mesmerised by the variety and colours of beads on display from around the continent. Even more intriguing were the fascinating stories the traders shared about what the beads and artefacts symbolised to the cultures that fashioned them. I was hooked!
Despite moving to a successful legal career in the corporate world, the lure was too strong. In 2015 I took the plunge and put my soul into creating SHIKHAZURI.
And now, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!
