Janan is a beautiful name that means “one with soulful heart” in Arabic. This Chrysocolla stone Yemeni bead necklace is a beautiful statement piece that exudes calm and harmony through its exquisite elements.
The Yemeni bead is over 70 years old and was made before World War II when the Jewish Yemenis were the predominant silversmiths in the region. These beads are typically hallmarked by the silversmiths, marking their authenticity and quality. The patterns were made using hammering and soldering techniques, each design being specific to the region from which it originated. This lovely specimen carries the maker’s mark, which was stamped onto a drop of molten silver in a section of the bead. This is a traditional bead that would have hung around a bride’s neck in a string of similar large finely worked beads. These types of beads are highly collectable as they have been in finite supply since the Jews emigrated to Israel after the War.
Chrysocolla is a stone that produces thoughts of peace and restfulness. It processes negativity, promotes a balanced environment and is also considered to be an excellent tool for aiding communication blockages.
In ancient Egypt, it was called the “wise stone” because it encouraged compromise and resolution during negotiations; consequently Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt from 51-30 B.C., wore Chrysocolla jewellery everywhere to promote diplomacy. It has long been used in artisanal circles, not only for adornment, but also in its crushed form as a pigment for paint by Renaissance artists, and by ancient goldsmiths as a solder. The later purpose alludes to the source of its name: in Greek, chrysos means gold and kola means glue. The deep blue to turquoise and green tones of this stone is simply breath taking!
Tibetan silver spacer beads separate the stone beads, preventing friction while also adding an opulent touch. This stunning Chrysocolla stone Yemeni bead necklace is completed with a sterling silver clasp, chain and SHIKHAZURI charm.
