Jiona Story & Symbolism
Jiona is a Swahili name that means “to glow with pride”. Recycled glass beads, linked with soft cotton cord, form a versatile collection of easy-to-wear jewellery that will instantly liven any look from day to night. The beads are commonly known as trade beads following their use between the 16th and 20th century as a form of currency. They have also been used for over 400 years as symbols of maturity, wealth, beauty, social status and identity.
Artisan Made & Distinctively Unique
The beads we use are made from crushed bottle glass using non-mechanical processes and are sourced in small batches. This lends to the distinctive character and uniqueness of your jewellery, which may vary slightly in shape, style and colour to that shown in the product images.
